DBD - Dancing By Definition Dance By Definition involves any situation where you have to remember the definition of a call. Often this involves calls from unfamiliar positions or fractionalized calls. Individual calls can be broken into their component parts, so that a call can be danced from any position in the set, including dancing a call from a different starting position. This requires that dancers remember how each call is defined rather than what usually works. For example, Swing Thru is defined as Half by the Right if you can followed by Half by the Left if you can. Those dancers who have learned some Dancing By Definition are usually better dancers for the experience; and a Dance By Definition workshop is always lots of fun, because the caller knows that even experienced dancers are going to need to be walked through the call once the set breaks down which it invariably does. Lots of laughter always accompanies the learning experience.
